“He and the doctors decided that was the best course of action for the short term and the long term,” Roberts said. “When you’re having surgery this time of year, it’s probably the end of his season. I expect a full recovery.”Cingrani, 29, was expected to be a key part of a bullpen that has struggled at times in 2019. He has limited left-handed hitters to a .215 batting average. 302 on-base percentage, and .391 slugging percentage in his seven-year career. This season, left-handed hitters are batting .239, with a .300 OBP and .403 slugging percentage against the Dodgers’ lefty relievers (Scott Alexander, Julio Urias and Caleb Ferguson). The Dodgers re-signed Cingrani for $2.65 million last November, avoiding arbitration. He is eligible for free agency at the end of the season.INJURY UPDATESCatcher Austin Barnes will play minor-league rehabilitation games Tuesday and Wednesday with advanced Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, Roberts said.Barnes, on the 10-day injured list with a strained left groin, will be activated Friday and catch Clayton Kershaw when the Dodgers visit the San Francisco Giants. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error LOS ANGELES – Dodgers pitcher Tony Cingrani will have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder Wednesday in Los Angeles. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and likely end Cingrani’s season.Cingrani’s season never really began. The left-hander threw four scoreless innings in spring training before pain in his shoulder rendered him unable to pitch. He began the season on the injured list and made enough progress to make eight minor league rehabilitation appearances in May: one with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga and seven with Triple-A Oklahoma City. But after throwing a scoreless inning May 24 in New Orleans, Cingrani’s rehabilitation assignment was shut down. His shoulder pain persisted. After consulting with ElAttrache, the decision was made to have surgery. Roberts reiterated that the Dodgers aren’t planning to carry three catchers on their active roster, despite the emergence of rookie Will Smith. Smith’s first major league RBI, a solo home run against the Phillies, gave the Dodgers a win in their final at-bat Saturday.Besides giving Smith the advantage of regular at-bats, Roberts said that sending Smith to Triple-A Oklahoma City reflects the Dodgers’ upcoming matchups.“We’re going to see a lot more right-handed arms,” Roberts said, “so to have (left-handed hitter Matt) Beaty, whether it’s to start or off the bench.”Justin Turner fielded ground balls at third base Sunday morning as Roberts and Dodgers head athletic trainer Neal Rampe looked on. Turner hasn’t played an inning in the field since he strained a hamstring in the ninth inning of last Wednesday’s game against the Mets. His walk as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning Sunday was his first plate appearance since the injury.Roberts said Turner will start at third base Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. A left-handed pitcher, Robbie Ray, is scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks. Turner is batting .176 with no home runs in 41 career plate appearances against Ray.ALSOThe Diamondbacks will start a pair of right-handers, Taylor Clarke and Jon Duplantier, Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. The Dodgers will counter with Walker Buehler (Monday), Hyun-Jin Ryu (Tuesday) and Kenta Maeda (Wednesday) in that order.UP NEXTDodgers (RHP Walker Buehler) at Diamondbacks (LHP Robbie Ray), 6:40 p.m., SportsNet LA (where available), 570-AM
The second-to-last episode of WWE Monday Night Raw before Wrestlemania 36 on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, took place from an empty WWE Performance Center in Orlando. The show held without fans due to the coronavirus pandemic was better than last week’s episode. Raw featured a new lead camera angle centered on the entrance ramp so the focus wasn’t on no fans being inside the WWE training facility. A solid promo from Heyman, who is one of the best talkers in the wrestling industry. You can tell WWE followed AEW’s lead from their episode of “Dynamite” on Wednesday and placing the hard camera to face the entry way so no one can there’s no fans inside the venue. I wonder who is watching AEW every Wednesday.8:03 p.m.: Raw begins with an in-ring promo by Paul Heyman and WWE champion Brock Lesnar, previewing Lesnar’s title match against Drew McIntyre at Wrestlemania 36.8:00 p.m.: Welcome to Sporting News’ live coverage of WWE Monday Night Raw from an empty-arena at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. The show ended with a great promo by Randy Orton telling Edge that the reason he’s attacked him for the last two months is because of how much he loves his former tag team partner. WWE Monday Night Raw live results, updates(All times Eastern.)10:55 p.m.: Orton said Edge was right about one thing on last week’s Raw in that he never had to earn anything since he got into WWE. Orton said he took the torch from Mick Foley when they battled at Wrestlemania and Backlash in 2004. He says grit is longevity, not sitting up and looking at the ceiling for the last nine years. Orton claims no one has more grit on the WWE roster than him. Orton tells Edge that everything he’s done to him the last couple of months was out of love for his love. He accepts the challenge for Wrestlemania and says Edge might be writing the book but he will be the one to write the last chapter at the “Showcase of the Immortals”. A fantastic promo by Orton to close things out. The microphone work between Edge and Orton has been the best thing on WWE television in a number of years. 10:54 p.m.: Randy Orton comes out for the show-closing segment of Raw to respond to Edge’s challenge of a Last Man Standing match at Wrestlemania.10:49 p.m.: Flair defeated Asuka to retain the Smackdown women’s title. Another great move by WWE, highlighting a talent winning a spectacular match because this was Flair’s best one to date. 10:25 p.m.: Another bout from the rewind machine as Charlotte Flair battles Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s title at Wrestlemania 34. He questions why Owens would challenge him at Wrestlemania when he’s won the Universal and WWE championships on those shows. Rollins says he’s a God at Wrestlemania while Owens’ been a failure. He walks away as Owens ponders what Rollins said. A fantastic promo from Rollins. You believed every word that came out of his mouth which is exactly how an interview segment should be. They let these four guys show how good of workers they really are. The changing of the cameras has made a world of difference. Andrade won the contest for his team, connecting with Judas Effect for the pin even though the referee was hesistant in counting to three. Afterwards, The Street Profits came down and hit Andrade and Garza with double dropkicks. A good segment.9:30 p.m.: It’s good to see this one getting a little bit more time.9:20 p.m.: The Raw tag team champions, The Street Profits come out to the commentary desk to get a good look at their challengers at Wrestlemania, Garza and Andrade. A great performance by all three guys, especially from Lesnar and Rollins.8:16 p.m.: Well, this didn’t last long for WWE to go back to airing old matches. Right now, we have the WWE championship bout from the 2015 Royal Rumble, as Lesnar defended the belt against John Cena and Seth Rollins. A great one to show by WWE to highlight Lesnar as this was the former UFC heavyweight champion at his peak since his return to pro wrestling. You get people to show how good Lesnar is when motivated.

They do a fantastic job and we would like to thank them.”Thurston County Realtors Association President Rae Anne Toth represented the Realtors at the Board of Commissioners meeting.“We greatly appreciate the recognition for our effort,” said Rae Anne. “Ed Kunkel, Jr. was our ‘Community Days’ chair this year and organized more than a hundred volunteers. MADRID (AP):Antoine Griezmann scored a goal in each half to give AtlÈtico Madrid an emphatic 2-0 win over defending champion Barcelona and a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League yesterday.Griezmann opened the scoring in the 36th minute and then sealed the victory with a late penalty kick to allow Atletico to reverse the 2-1 first-leg loss at Camp Nou with a 3-2 victory on aggregate. The result sent Diego Simeone’s team, which had played most of the first-leg match with 10 men, to the semi-finals for the second time in the last three seasons. And it shattered the hopes of favourites Barcelona, who have reached the semi-finals seven times in the last eight seasons.AtlÈtico Madrid left Camp Nou infuriated with the refereeing last week after their striker, Fernando Torres, was sent off in the 35th minute. Yesterday, it was Barcelona who had reason to complain after a hand ball by Gabi Fern·ndez that appeared to be inside the area but was judged by the referee outside the box in second-half injury time.Lionel Messi’s ensuing free kick sailed over the crossbar in his team’s last chance. In yesterday’s other game, Bayern Munich advanced 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-2 draw at Benfica. The draw in the return leg of their quarter-final meant Bayern went through 3-2 on aggregate after their 1-0 win at home. Unfancied Benfica made the German club fight till the end, though, as substitute Talisca’s curling free kick beat Manuel Neuer in the 76th to make it level on the night.Ra?l JimÈnez’s 27th-minute goal, when he met a lobbed pass from Eliseu and beat two defenders to head past Neuer, put Benfica level over the two legs and fired up the Portuguese team.Arturo Vidal replied for Bayern in the 38th with his second goal over the two legs. Benfica goalkeeper Ederson pushed out Philipp Lahm’s cross as far as the Chile midfielder, who was alone on the edge of the area and fired a shot into the empty goal.Thomas Mueller, who hadn’t scored in his past three games, made it 2-1 for the Bundesliga club on the night with a header in the 52nd.Real Madrid and Manchester City had reached the last four on Tuesday.
Dear Editor,It is a national disgrace that the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is often forced to list the names of employers who fail to remit NIS deductions from their workers’ pay, as well as the employers’ contributions.I contend that if employers who deduct PAYE and NIS contributions from workers’ salaries then keep it for their own use for whatever length of time are committing fraud, which is a criminal offence. It is incomprehensible to me that so many companies and businesspersons in Guyana seem willing to attempt to steal their employees’ NIS contributions and face public shame and ridicule. Are these employers not human beings with feelings for fellow human beings, especially those who are at or beneath the poverty line? What happens to these poor employees if there are accidents or sudden medical emergencies and they find out belatedly that they are not covered by NIS? Lives and families could be destroyed.I know personally some of the persons listed by NIS for withholding workers’ contributions. People who steal NIS contributions will also be stealing Pay as you Earn (PAYE) Income Tax deductions, corporate taxes and VAT. Government needs to investigate them for that.As I am writing, security guards in Regions Five and Six are protesting another company. Can you imagine the thinking of these people who indulge is such criminal conspiracies and skulduggery?Breaching the NIS laws does not result in criminal charges even though it involves acts of theft, which is a criminal offence. The NIS is in the habit of going to employers and begging them to pay; they allow the employer to pay their outstanding sums without interest and then they grant such businesses compliance certificates although they owe outstanding monies and the promises to pay are never kept.Deducting money to remit to NIS and failing to do so is fraud. This must be prosecuted as criminal offences. If it will take some time to enact the required criminal laws to support NIS, there is the route of private criminal court action. With appropriate laws in place, NIS could seize the employers’ properties and watch the money roll in. If they do not have properties, rework the laws so that NIS can go after the properties of the general secretaries and the heads of such businesses and watch the money roll in.This is why NIS is suffering. They lack money; people are not paying. NIS and the Guyana Revenue Authority pressure people like me who are fully compliant and operate in an honest and principled way because they don’t have the gall or the capacity or wisdom to figure out how to go after the real culprits.Sincerely,Roshan Khan Snr
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest As long as everything goes as planned, today will be our last day of harvest. I have 55 acres of beans to cut and we are done. We are beyond ready for it to be done. It has been a roller coaster of a year and a downhill roller coaster of a fall. We are not that upset with how the yields turned out after the weather we had but there have been little issues with things going wrong along the way and we are definitely ready to be done.Planting date was very crucial this year. The later crops were not nearly as dry and that was a lot more money in drying costs. There was quite a bit of re-adjusting the machine from the early corn to the late-planted corn and it slowed down the harvest. The double-crop beans needed August and September rains that they didn’t get. The yields were all over the place. They got planted later than they should have been and it got dry for them at the wrong time. This year they weren’t really worth cutting. The corn yields really varied by farm and soil type. We planted some fields that we should have waited a day or two longer last spring but we had to plant when we could. As a young farmer I see things I get stressed about but then my dad tells me that he has been seeing these kinds of things for years. The ground is not as favorable as I thought it would be but we are getting the weather so we can start the fall jobs that we should have been doing a month ago. We have chicken litter to spread, lime to spread and barns to clean out.We usually shoot to be done two weeks before Thanksgiving, and here we are still working at harvest the week after Thanksgiving, but we were still blessed with a pretty good harvest and nothing disastrous went wrong. It is what it is.
The Delhi University admission process to undergraduate courses is set to begin from June 2, 2014. Although earlier it was announced that the DU application forms 2014 will include an option to select preferred Colleges, a varsity official has announced that Delhi University has made a decision to remove the college selection option from both its online and offline admission forms. “There have been certain complaints in the past where student getting very high percentage have suffered because they chose just two-three colleges and once cut-offs were out, they failed to get admissions. To avoid such problem, the college selection option decision has been reconsidered,” J.M. Khurana, Delhi university’s dean of students’ welfare, told IANS.The choice of selecting a college in the Optical Mark Registration form was removed last year after the varsity introduced a four year undergraduate programme. However, when the admission guidelines were introduced earlier this month, DU said students would be able to choose their colleges too. There are 77 colleges under the varsity.”We have just simplified the process and made it easier for students so they do not face problem,” Malay Neerav, joint dean of students’ welfare and media coordinator at DU, said. The application forms for DU undergraduate admissions will be available from June 2, 2014 and are to be submitted by June 16, 2014.
